”it started but with a grain of sand, with colours and shapes bouncing in my mind – sand and ideas that’s all it is”

Deborah Moses is respected and revered as one of the UKs leading kiln formed glass artists. She founded her studio, The Silver Zebra in 2004 and has garnered high praise and accolades for her exceptionally stunning art and sculptural work.

Drawing on over 35 years of experience in the glass industry, Deborah has developed her own eclectic and innovative style, incorporating a narrative of movement and a natural rhythm into all of her pieces. Although Deborah is a naturally self taught artist whose formal career began in 2002, her family has a rich history with glass.

Starting in Bristol and London, Deborah discovered her own innovative techniques and unique style that catapulted her fledgling career forward. Now, a master of her craft, Deborah offers training and classes in her studio for anyone wishing to learn her skills. Her visitors and students travel from across the globe as well as the UK.

As a classically trained chef, Deborah provides students freshly prepared lunches that are just as integral as the glass courses. Lunches are made with the families home grown produce or locally sourced, not to mention the pastries and desserts. The studio is based on the families dairy farm in rural Cheshire so it’s a perfect retreat for students or for client visits.

“To me, art is a synthesis of my personal feelings, the subject and colours that inspire me and my materials and techniques. Serenity and simplicity are my primary goals”

Known for luxury glass sculpture, wall panel art, public installations and large format paintings, Deborah has gained national and international recognition. As her career has expanded and evolved, she has received invitations from TV and the media to showcase her work, including the BBC programme ‘Home is where the Art is’ with Nick Knowles.

Her glass work is largely commissioned including public installations, private, commercial, store displays and interior design commissions from clients: Private Hospitals, Councils, Architects, Interior Designers, Schools, Bang and Olufsen and Robbie Williams for SoccerAid. The Silver Zebra studio takes its name from Deborah’s love of glam rock Marc Bolan and the incomparable David Bowie. Her nickname of ‘Zebra’ comes from the lyrics in Bolans song ‘Deborah’; ‘Deborah is a Zebra’. ‘Silver’ compliments her kiln formed glass as a second discipline and has been utilised in both ‘beneath the tide’ and ‘when deer lay down’ series.

Deborah’s family and friends have played a huge role in her success and have supported her career from the beginning. For this and so much more, Deborah is truly grateful.
